California Lightworks Grow Light Reviews
Indoor growers were very happy with MH and HPS lights that helped them grow strong and healthy plants with high yields. They didn’t even think about other types of lights – until LED grow lights came into the picture. The lights came with a promise of decreasing power consumption and increasing light output – and they delivered on their promise. LED grow lights have performed so excellently that most indoor growers have forgotten about MH and HPS lights.
One company that’s known for its superior LED grow lights is California Lightworks. Located in Canoga Park, California, the company sells its powerful grow lights all over the world. While the lights don’t come cheap, they offer great value for money and you’ll quickly recoup your investment.
Each of the grow lights features cutting-edge technology and is easy to install and use. Every light is tested in a laboratory and in an indoor setting to ensure it functions brilliantly. The high-quality lights come in different colors spectrum and some have UVB bulbs to enhance plant production. Whether you are new to indoor growing or you are an expert, you could use one of these awesome LED grow lights as they truly can be placed in the league of best commercial grow lights.

California Lightworks Solar System 550 LED Grow Light Fixture 400 watts - ReviewA game-changer in indoor growing, the solar system 550 grow light is small but powerful. Its light output is higher than that of much larger LED grow lights and it easily replaces a 600-watt HPS lamp. While the grow light is perfect for the vegetative and blooming stages, it can be used in all phases of plant growth. It covers a 3ft x 4ft grow bed during the flowering phase and a 6ft x 8ft during the vegetative phase.
The grow light has a fully programmable spectrum, but to program the spectrum you have to get the Solar System controller which is sold separately. But the good news is you can still switch between the vegetative and flowering modes manually without the controller.
Osram LEDs – which are highly efficient – power the light and it draws 400 watts of actual power. The LEDs, and the cooling fans which keep the light cool, have an average lifespan of 50,000 hours.
California Light Works Solar Flare 220w LED Grow Light - ReviewOne of the brightest lights in its class, this 220WLED grow light is made up of 72 high flux Osram SSL LEDs. Each of the LEDs is placed at an angle of 80 degrees to ensure the light spread is at its best. This also allows for the light to be discharged evenly for a healthier, richer yield. The LEDs make the light very efficient, it only pulls 165W while delivering 220W.
The light's popularity and wide usage is due to its compact design that works well with a 2ft x 2ft grow bed. Its aluminum casing and superior cooling features ensure the LEDs have a long lifespan. Just like other grow lights by California Lightworks, it uses wide input LED drivers and can be used on any electrical grid with the right outlet plug. But the light has one major downside: Its price. We feel it is very high for the coverage it offers.
California Lightworks SolarSystem 1100 UVB - ReviewMerging two of CaliforniaLightworks’ most powerful lights - the Solar System UVBand the Solar System 1100 – this light is a powerhouse. If you were a fan of the Solar Storm 880 which is no longer in circulation, you will love this light. It weighs 30 pounds and is constructed using high-quality materials.
A single switch allows you to change the spectrum from vegetative to blooming. When you turn on the blooming mode, the unit consumes approximately 475 watts. If you want to increase the light output and turn on the UVB bulbs during the blooming phase, the light will consume 600 watts while delivering 1100 watts. The light it emits is super bright and covers a large area. However, the unitmay get a bit hot if it runs for many hours. This light works well with all types of indoor plants – from berries to marijuana – and makes them dense and lush with growth.
California Lightworks Solarstorm 440-watt LED with UVB - ReviewIf your budget for a grow light is $1000, get this unit! When you see how powerful it is and how it makes your plants flourish, you’ll realize it’s the best investment you’ve ever made as a grower. The light consists of 88 5WLED bulbs that produce 440 watts of power. It is compactly designed and very energy-efficient as it uses 350 watts at most (in UVB mode).
Its most outstanding feature is its UVB mode that efficiently enhances crop potency. The feature causes the grow light to replicate the UVB light the sun emits. Turn on the UVB bulbs during the last weeks of blooming for the best results.
The light has a 6-band spectrum for increased canopy penetration and provides a coverage of 3ft x 3ft for flowering and 6ft x 6ft for Veg. Its only shortcoming is that you must place it directly over your grow bed as its light doesn’t spread out.
Commercial Led Lighting System - California Lightworks Solar System 550 - ReviewThe innovative Solar System 550 will change the way you run your indoor grow operation. While it is small in size, it produces more light than bigger LED grow lights and can substitute a 600-watt HPS light. It is powerful enough for the vegetative and the flowering phases and has a fully programmable spectrum. The manufacturer provides the Solar System controller which you need to adjust the spectrum (as well as other useful items). At full power, the light draws 400 watts. If you want to illuminate a large grow bed, get several units. You will drastically reduce energy usage and eliminate the need to change bulbs as the Osram LEDs used have a lifespan of 50,000 hours. The light’s water-resistant fans also have the same lifespan and ensure it runs cool at all times. But if you don’t have $1000 to spend on a grow light, you may want to look at other lights.
California Lightworks Solar System UVB 120-240V - ReviewBRAND NEW for 2018 ! If you already have powerful grow lights and all you’re looking for is a supplemental light, this one will do. It emits UVBlight (285-315nm). UVB light promotes photomorphogenesis and boosts production of flavonoids, antioxidants, and other natural sunscreen compounds. The light also increases production of Cannabidiol (CBD) and Tetrahydrocannabinol(THC) in cannabis plants.
To increase resin development and crop potency, use this light during the last weeks of blooming. Like some of the other lights we've reviewed here, it works with the Solar System controller which is sold separately. Once you add the light, your plants will grow strong and healthy, have a better aroma, and their chemical profiles will improve.
But since it is a supplemental light, you may want to look at the other options if you need a grow light that can illuminate plants for an entire grow cycle. You must also use it with caution and its strong light must not touch your skin or eyes.
California Light Works Solar Storm 880w LED Grow Light UVB - ReviewWhen you switch to this grow light, you'll notice a change in your plants in as little as one week. California Lightworks truly took its time to create this masterpiece. It has powerful high flux LED diodes.288 Osram SSL LEDs cover the red and blue ends of the spectrum. The LEDs have a 50,000-hour lifespan so you'll never have to worry about replacing the grow light for years.
The light functions at 90% efficiency and does not waste a lot of light like HID or fluorescent lights. Its PAR output is higher than that of other lights in its category and it makes sure that all plants receive bright, uniform light. Built-in UVBbulbs give your crops higher potency during the flowering stage. Thegrow light consumes 475W in Veg mode,650W in bloom mode, and 680W in bloom mode with the UVBmode on.But while it is extremely powerful, its hefty price puts it out of reach for many growers.
California Light Works 880 LED Grow Light 880w UVB with Free Method Seven LED Glasses and Hangers - ReviewIf you want a light that will improve crop potency and yield, this is it. It comes with a dual spectrum switch and UVB bulbs, allowing you to control the spectrum for your plants. When you switch on the Veg mode, the light discharges high levels of blue light balanced with red for enhanced vegetative growth. The bloom mode delivers red light balanced with blue for excellent crop quality. Turn on the UVB feature during the last few weeks of blooming to further boost crop potency. The light offers a coverage of 5ft x 5ft for Veg and 4ft x 4ft for bloom. It pulls 690 watts of power and 720 watts with the UVB on. UVB light helps with resin growth and promotes crop potency.
The amazing features in this grow light make it better than a 600-watt HPS or MH light. To sweeten the offer,CaliforniaLightworks gives free LED glasses (which are a must when you're using a LED light) and hangers for the light. But for the price you pay, we wish the light offered more coverage.
California Lightworks Solar System 550 + Controller, LED Grow Light Fixture 400w - ReviewWhile this light is no different from the other Solar System 550 lights we’ve reviewed, it comes with additional features to simplify indoor growing. It has a programmable spectrum that can be adjusted with the Solar System controller (which the manufacturer provides). The touchscreen controller features a 24-hour and a weekly timer and controls 3 spectrum bands for optimum plant growth.
While the grow light doesn't provide a lot of coverage on its own, it can cover a large growing area when connected to other similar lights. It has an average lifespan of 5.5 years thanks to its powerful Osram LEDs, heavy-duty heat sinks, and well-built fans.
The light is very easy to set up and move as it only weighs 13 pounds. At full power, it consumes 400 watts of electricity while giving your plants 550 watts. When you order the light, you'll also get a power cord and a communications cable.
Which One Is Ideal for You?
Well, that depends on a few things. First, how big is your growing area? Secondly, what’s your budget? Thirdly, which plants are you growing? If you have a small grow tent, get the Solar Flare 220W Grow Light. If your budget is $1000, get the Solar System 550 that comes with a spectrum controller, LED lights, and ratchet ropes. If you need a grow light that will ensure your plants produce a better yield, get the Solar Storm 880W with UVB.
While California Lightworks LED grow lights are pricey, they are well worth the money and will pay for themselves in a short time.
